Supreme Court today deferred to November 21 the hearing in Rohingya Muslims matter but allowed petitioners to approach it in case of any contingency. Notably, Supreme Court said the Rohingya Muslims issue is of great magnitude and the State has a big role to play in it. ASG Tushar Mehta, arguing for the Centre, told 3-judge bench of SC “this is an issue involving international ramifications, as per ANI report. Myanmar’s leader Aung San Suu Kyi is “appalled” at the Rohingya refugee crisis in her country and is determined to fix it, but needs to be careful not to inflame the situation further, an adviser to Suu Kyi told reporters on Friday. “She is appalled by what she has seen. She does care deeply about this. I know that does not always come across. But she really does,” said the adviser, who asked not to be quoted by name, as per Reuters report.
Earlier on September 24, Left parties from South Asian countries urged the international community, including the governments of India, Myanmar, Bangladesh and Nepal, to adopt a roadmap to resolve the Rohingya refugee crisis. The parties met at the South Asian Regional Seminar of Communist and Left parties as the Rohingya Muslims flee from the Rakhine state of Myanmar amid arson and violence. The two-day seminar adopted a resolution which expressed concern over the “grave humanitarian crisis” and apprehended that it could be used by extremist and fundamentalist forces, as per PTI report.
“The governments of South Asia (countries), particularly, Myanmar, Bangladesh, India, Nepal and other countries along with the international community must immediately adopt a roadmap to resolve this humanitarian crisis and ensure that the harassed and beleaguered Rohingya population live a decent and dignified life,” the resolution said, PTI reported
It said action may be taken against a confirmed act of terrorism by certain groups “but the whole community can never be targeted on the basis of the activities of individuals or, some groups”. The conference was attended by senior communist leaders from South Asian countries, including Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. The conference was inaugurated by CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury. Organised by the CPI(M) to mark the 100th anniversary of the Great October Revolution, it was also attended by senior communist leaders of the country, including Prakash Karat, Sudhakar Reddy, S Ramachandran Pillai and D Raja, added PTI report.
