Nagpur: Music lovers were in for a real treat when 'Sa Re Ga Ma Pa' fame Niranjan Bobde and his team took the audience through the musical journey of songs from 1940 to 1970 during the show titled 'A Golden Era' organized by Chitnavis Centre at their premises on Wednesday.

Bobde showcased his versatility right from the beginning of the programme with the pleasing rendition of spiritual song 'Man tarpat hari darshan ko aaj', originally sung by Mohammed Rafi. Songs presented by Bobde which included 'Paag ghungroo baje', 'Ye chand sa roshan chehra', 'Aye meri johara jabi', 'Chatur nar' and others not only left the crowd spellbound but also evoked an encore. The popular qawwali 'Parda hai parda' from the movie Amar Akbar Anthony added a fun quotient to the concert and the crowd was seen clapping throughout the song. Solo bits by the tabla player in between the song 'Madhuban me radhika nache re' were noteworthy and appreciated by everybody present.

Young singers Aishwarya Nagrajan and Parvathi Nayar took the crowd by surprise with their striking performance and sweet voice as they did justice to legendary Lata Mangeshkar's songs 'O sajna barkha bahar aayi' and 'Mose chhal kiye jaye' respectively. Popular Hindi melodies like 'Aa chal ke tuze', 'Tum muze yu bhula na', 'Chhup gaye sare nazare', 'Aake sidhi lagi', 'Mast baharo ka mai aashiq' and 'Wada tera wada' sung by Anil Gulhane, Nandu Andhare, Isbabul Hasan and Sunil Laghate received applause from the audience. Duet performance by Bobde and Nayar on 'Kuhu kuhu bole koyaliya', based on four ragas, proved to be one of the best performances of the evening.

The song list was a perfect blend of 23 solo and duet Hindi numbers and also included a few ones from Amitabh Bachchan's films to mark his birthday which made the audience relive the golden era.

The accompanying artistes included Mahendra Dole and Parimal Joshi (synthesizer), Ashok Tokalwar (tabla), Subhash Wankhede (octopod), Deepak Kamble (dholak) and Sarthak Vighne (minor). Ajaz Khan, host of the show, engaged the audience well in between the performances with various tales about the songs.

The money collected through the show will be used for charity purposes by Chitnavis Centre.
