BENGALURU: Following the delay in the withdrawal of South West monsoons, several parts of the state continued to receive moderate to heavy showers on Wednesday. Bengaluru city, which has been reeling under heavy rainfall, was affected again due rainfall recorded post-noon.
While low-lying areas continued to bear the brunt of the moderate downpour reported in the city, traffic on several major roads was affected. As a result, the traffic police issued an alert from their Twitter handle advising people to “travel only if absolutely necessary”. “Slow moving traffic in most of the roads,” the tweet said. Earlier, the post-noon showers had led to slow-moving traffic in several areas, including the Central Business District.
In the city, highest rainfall was recorded in HSR Layout, which received 54.5 mm rainfall as of 9.30 pm. Rain was widespread in Bengaluru Urban, with parts of the city recording between 10 and 55 mm. The second highest rainfall was recorded at Vaderahalli in Bengaluru North taluk with 48.5 mm rainfall.
Other parts of the state too received received rainfall during the day, with the maximum recorded at 133 mm in parts of Chitradurga district.
Forecast
According to Indian Meteorological Department, Bengaluru and other parts of south-interior Karnataka may receive 70 mm of rainfall on Thursday, before the intensity weakens along with the withdrawing South-West monsoon. Rainfall is forecast to be scattered in most parts of the state from Friday. However, the development of a low-pressure region in the Bay of Bengal over the next two to three days might also result in some showers, the IMD report indicated.
