The Odisha Police today charge- sheeted jailed RTI activist Jayant Das for allegedly maligning the reputation of Gajapati Maharaja of Puri and making a malicious attempt to outrage religious feelings of the Hindus.
The police submitted the final report of the investigation in the subdivisional judicial court here and charged Jayant Das under various sections of the IPC and the IT Act.
The activist is currently serving a jail term in a cyber pornography case.
Das had allegedly posted obscene remarks about Puri Gajapati Maharaja Divyasingha Deb on Facebook in 2016. Jayasankar Acharya, an advocate in the city, had asked him to delete the post.
Instead of removing the post, Das allegedly made malicious remarks about the advocate and his father.
He also allegedly made derogatory remarks outraging the religious feelings of the Hindus.
Acharya then lodged an FIR against him at the Lalbag police station here. Police after registering a case had sought his remand. Das was sent to police remand for interrogation in August.
