The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Thursday defended Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national President Amit Shah's son Jay Shah in an alleged nepotism row. The RSS asked for evidence to prove allegations being leveled against Jay Shah before seeking a probe in the matter.

"If there are corruption allegations against anyone, they should be investigated. But there has to be prima facie evidence of wrong-doing," said Dattatreya Hosabale, joint general secretary, RSS. The ideological head of the BJP, RSS broke its silence over the issue for the first time on Thursday and chose to back Jay Shah.

RSS even gave a clean chit to Shah, reiterating that loans that were obtained by his companies were transparent and repaid in full with interest. The RSS' statements backing Shah come a day after AICC Vice President Rahul Gandhi attacked Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi over allegations leveled against Jay Shah.
Earlier, the BJP had come out in defense of Jay Shah with union ministers like Piyush Goyal and Rajnath Singh backing Amit Shah's son. Meanwhile, Jay Shah's advocates have filed a defamation suit against a news website for a story alleging spike in Jay Shah's income after BJP government led by Narendra Modi came to power.
