10k people vow not to allow sale of liquor

Jaipur: Showing community solidarity against boozing which is seen as a social evil in these villages, more than 10,000 people of 16 gram panchayats in Dausa district pledged to not to allow sale of liquor in their respective villages on Wednesday. Not only that those who were in the habit of boozing too pledged to quit it with immediate effect. All this took place at Solanga Dhad village of Dausa district where community members mainly from the Gujjar community had organised a Mahapanchayat.
At least 10,000 people gathered at the village when the anchor from the state asked it loud if the villages were willing to booze anymore in the rest of their life and the villagers replied with a clear and loud no.
To add to their commitment two of the liquor contractors who have shops mainly in these gram Panchayats handed over the keys of their locked liquor shops with a pledge that they won't be part of liquor trade anymore.
"The Mahapanchayat was called by a local leader Baba Harigiri who is active in the region against the liquor ban. In presence of the parliamentary secretary, government of Rajasthan Om Prakash Hudla the villagers pledge to quit boozing and disallow liquor sale in their village permanently," said Raju Ram Meena, a native of Nangla village on Thursday
