Mohanlal and Manju Warrier's Villain promises to be the next Malayalam blockbuster: All you need to know

Malayalam superstar Mohanlal's upcoming venture Villain has been making  a lot of buzz ever since it was announced. The film is reportedly a neo-noir action that also stars Malayalam A-list actress Manju Warrier in the lead.

The film also marks the debut of Tamil film actors Vishal, Hansika Motwani and Telugu actors Srikanth and Raashi Khanna in the Malayalam film industry.

Even before the film's release, Villain has been making headlines, because of the moolah it has made by selling its audio and satellite rights. According to a report in the International Business Times, the audio rights have been purchased by one of India's largest audio companies, Junglee Music, for Rs 50 lakh. The satellite rights have been bought by Surya TV for a whopping Rs 7 crore.

The Hindi dubbing rights of Villain have been sold for Rs 3 crore, which is a record for any Malayalam movie so far. The IBT report further adds that owing to these earnings, Villain makers have already minted Rs 10.5 crore ahead of its release.

Villain has been written and directed by B Unnikrishnan, and has been produced by Rockline Venkatesh under his banner Rockline Entertainments Pvt Ltd. It is reportedly the production house's maiden project.

On 11 October, the film's song 'Kandittum Kandittum' was released and immediately went viral. The song, sung by veteran singer KJ Yesudas, features Mohanlal, Warrier amid stunning visuals. It received a lot of praise for the chemistry between the lead actors. The music for the film has been composed by the 4 Musics team and the songs have been written by BK Harinarayanan.

The IBT report further states that Villain is the first Indian movie to be filmed and released in the 8K resolution format.

Mohanlal essays the role of a retired cop in the film, while Warrier plays his wife. They also have a teenage daughter. In the song, 'Kandittum Kandittum', Mohanlal is seen as a doting father and a caring husband.

The film also stars Siddique, Renji Panicker, Aju Varghese, Chemban Vinod Jose, Anand, Idavela Babu, Kottayam Nazeer and Antony Perumbavoor. Villain is slated to release on 27 October.
