Minor critical after rape, accused held

It is the same district where in early 2000 Mukhtaran Mai was raped on the order of the village council, triggering an international outrage.

KURNOOL: A 5-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 22-year-old youth at Allur in Uyyalawada mandal on Tuesday, but the atrocity came to light on Wednesday. According to Uyyalawada Sub-Inspector K Niranjan Reddy,  K Nagendra raped the girl after taking her to an isolated place when her mother, a washer woman, was busy washing clothes at Paleru tank.She was admitted to Koilakuntla government hospital in a critical condition. The accused, Nagendra, was taken into custody.
