CM to inaugurate Suryapet substation today

HYDERABAD: Arrangements have been made for 24-hour power supply to the agricultural sector. Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao will formally inaugurate a 400 KV substation at Chivvemla on the outskirts of Suryapet on Thursday. The substation was constructed at a cost of `1,600 crore.On Wednesday the chief minister spoke with TS Genco and Transco chairman and managing director D Prabhakar Rao about power generation, distribution and supply. The official explained to Rao about the efforts made by the power utilities to supply 24-hour power to the farm sector at a cost of `12, 610 crore.
Before formation of Telangana state, there were six 400 KV substations in the region to supply 5,240 MW of power. The electricity department estimated that to supply 24-hour power to farm and other sectors, 400 KV substations were needed to supply 13,000 MW of power and it started building nine substations. So far, five 400 KV substations have been set up, one each at Suryapet, Narsapur, Asupaka, Dindi and Maheswaram with 3,980 MW capacity.Construction of four more substations is progressing at Julurupadu, Nirmal, Kethireddy Pally and Jangaon with 3,705 MW capacity.
Prabhakar Rao said plans were formulated basing on the demand for power supply and distribution was planned accordingly. To strengthen the power supply, new substations, power transformers and lines were set up. The maximum demand as on date is 9, 600 MW and for 24-hour power supply to the farm sector, for lift irrigation schemes, Mission Bhagiratha and for the growing industrial sector there was a demand by another 50 per cent. The distribution network has been expanded with the increase in generation. The power utilities were working in accordance with the aim of the chief minister that 24-hour uninterrupted and quality power supply should be given to all sectors, he said.
