Haryana State Women Commission has sought action against Vishwas Gupta, the ex-husband of Honeypreet Insan, for defaming her character in public by levelling allegations against her without any proof. BJP leader and chairperson of the women commission, Pratibha Suman, has written a letter to Haryana DGP BS Sandu, requesting him to book Gupta in suitable sections and send a compliance report to the commission within seven days.
Suman said the letter was sent after lawyers of a human rights group met her with a complaint against Gupta. They complained that Gupta held a press conference in Chandigarh in which he openly insulted Honeypreet for having illicit relationship with her father-figure Ram Rahim. “The news of his claim was widely circulated in print and electronic media, but he did not back it up with any proof. When he had divorced Honeypreet in 2009, who is he to defame her now by making such statements?” the complaint stated.
After their complaint, the commission wrote a letter to DGP. It also asked the top cop to send them details of all the police cases between Honeypreet and Gupta so the commission could take further action against him at its own level. “Honeypreet is accused of causing violence in Panchkula. But still, being the chairperson of women commission, I cannot let anyone defame her character like this by making wild allegations. That is why I have written the letter to DGP,” Suman told HT.
Honeypreet, who is the adopted daughter of Ram Rahim, had denied allegations of having an impure relation with him in several interviews she had given prior to her arrest.
