Nagpur: Elderly people, who are generally seen sitting in the audience enjoying music, got a chance to showcase their singing talent, at a programme organized by Kala Shrushti Bahu-uddeshiya Sanstha (KSBS) at Mor Bhavan on Wednesday.
Many duet songs of Mohd Rafi, Kishore Kumar and Hemant Kumar were presented during 'Ek Pehlu Do Rang, Yugal Geeton Ke Sang' by the elders who moved on the stage at ease like professionals. Singers Lalita Thomas, Sandhya Chawre, Sudha Kashiv, Anuradha Varhokar, Malu Lanjewar, Preeti Bhal, Apporva Masodkar, Suresh Bhal, Raju Khadre, Madhav Lokhande, Suresh Kathale and Sudeep Rachalwar present many hit songs. Some of the songs were 'Jaane kaisa hai mera deewana', 'Taqdeer ka fasana', 'Na yeh chand hoga na yeh tare rahenge' and 'Ehsaan tera hoga mujhpar', besides others.
Amar Singh, language officer, National Insurance Company Limited, was the chief guest at the event.
Harshal Thomas, president of KSBS, said, "Songs of the golden era of Bollywood were sung for the audience so that they could rejoice. The aim was to carry forward the legacy of great singers and enjoy soulful lyrics."
KSBS is a body of elderly people who organize programmes on a monthly basis for the people to cherish. "We have toiled all our life and want to enjoy the remaining days in the best possible way. Members of the organization donate some amount from their pension and conduct such events," Thomas added.
Lalita Thomas, treasurer, said, "We came up with the idea of singers pairing up and presenting songs. We try to come up with variations so that the singers as well as the audience enjoy. Such events are some of the only sources of enjoyment for the elderly. Our only goal is to have a good time and enjoy life."
Anuradha Varhokar, one of the singers, said, "Such programmes give the elderly a platform to display their talent. Not only men but women are also encouraged to perform which is very exciting and thrilling. Such events help one display their hidden passion for music."
