Mumbai: The man who committed suicide by jumping off Bandra-Worli sea link on Monday took three rounds of the sea link in the cab he was in. The fourth time, he asked the taxi driver to stop and jumped off the bridge, it has been learnt.
As per the report in Hindustan Times, the man hailed a taxi from Haji Ali at 7:30 pm on Monday, and asked the cab driver to drive to Bandra via Sea Link. The man asked the cab driver to stop at Lilavati hospital in Bandra. The passenger, however, did not get down, and instead asked him to take him back to Worli.
“He sat quiet in the cab for a few minutes and then asked the cab driver to take a U-turn and go towards Worli again,” said a Worli police officer. Gajanan Desurkar, senior police inspector at Worli police station, said after reaching Worli Seaface, the man asked the taxi driver to go towards Bandra again.

This time too, the man did not leave the cab and told the driver to go back again. “The taxi driver said that the passenger paid for the toll each time they crossed the Sea Link,” said Desurkar to HT.
However, the next time the cab was about to reach Worli, the passenger asked the cab driver to stop the cab insisting that he is a diabetes patient and he had to take a leak. “As the taxi driver stopped the car, the man got off and approached the bridge. The man then climbed the railing and jumped in the water,” an official said.
Soon after the incident, the driver called the cops who alerted the fire brigade. Search operations soon began but they could not locate the man as it was dark. On Tuesday morning, the body was fished out from Worli side of the bridge.
The police sent the body to Nair Hospital for post-mortem and registered a case of accidental death. “We have not found any wallet or other documents on the man,” said Desurkar to Hindustan Times.
