Tusker killed in Latehar

Villagers allegedly killed a full-grown male elephant in a jungle in Latehar district today, forest officials said.

The incident happened 20 km away from Betla under the jurisdiction of Barwadih police station, a forest official said.


One person has been arrested in connection with the incident, said director of PTR M P Singh.

The male tusker was shot dead by unidentified persons in Betla jungle within limits of Palamau Tiger Reserve (PTR), Singh said.

After preliminary investigations, we found out that four locals were involved in the incident, he said.

It was yet to be ascertained whether the accused have any link with poachers, Singh said.
