After Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s deadline to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to fill potholes in 15 days, BBMP commissioner N Manjunath Prasad directed all the officials to work on Sundays and public holidays.
Prasad told DH, “The officials are working day and night and it is still possible for us to fill potholes within 15 days. I have asked officials not to take leave unless it is an emergency.”
The commissioner and mayor will hold meetings with officials. “We have continuously held meetings with engineers, officials and corporators to discuss ways to tackle the pothole issue. Similarly, we have requested all city MLAs to intimate our chief engineers about the potholes,” said Prasad.
Meanwhile, residents of Kaggadasapura staged a unique protest by paying homage to a road on Wednesday.
“According to us, this road is no more. The rajakulve has been blocked for the past two years and all rainwater stagnates on the road, leading to potholes. Hence, we came up with a unique protest by paying homage to the road,” said Jagadish, a resident.
The residents constructed a grave on the pothole and held a candlelight march on Wednesday night. “Fed up with false promises from civic officials despite repeated complaints, we decided this protest. At least now, we hope the BBMP will repair the road,” he added.
