C.V. Raman Yatra flagged off from PSG

C.V. Raman Yatra was flagged off from Coimbatore on Tuesday at PSG College of Technology by its principal R. Rudramurthy.

It will go through Tirupur, Erode, Salem and Krishnagiri before reaching Chennai.

“Science and technology for new India” is the focal theme for the ensuing India International Science Festival (IISF-2017), to be held in IIT and Anna University in Chennai from October 13 to 16.

With an aim to bring in awareness about this among the schools and colleges in Tamil Nadu, Arivial Sangam, the Tamil Nadu chapter of Vigyan Bharati along with IGCAR (Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research, Kalpakkam) is taking out two yatras named as Dr. Kalam Yatra and C. V. Raman Yatra.

Dr. Kalam Yatra started from Rameswaram on October 4 and covers some colleges in Rameswaram, Thiruchendur, Tirurnelveli, Sivakasi, Madurai, Dindigul, Tiruchirapalli and Perambalur before reaching the Chennai conference venue.

The Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India, along with the Departments of Science and Technology, Biotechnology and Vigyan Bharati is organising the IISF- 2017. Around 7,000 delegates have registered.

This is the third edition of IISF and the first one outside Delhi.

Themes

There are 18 themes under which events are split and many of these events take place in parallel – providing a knowledge platform for exchange of knowledge and thoughts.

To spread the message, satellite seminars are concurrently being planned at Goa, Kochi, Dehradun and Kolkatta.

Arivial Sangam president B. Krishnamurthy said for the first time, IISF was being conducted in Chennai and the yatra was a new initiative to spread the wings of science application for betterment of life beyond the venue of the conference.
