
Bandipora encounter: Two army men lost their lives during an encounter in Bandipora’s Hajin on Wednesday. Two terrorists were also killed today, while three security forces personnel have been injured in a gunbattle between security forces and militants in Hajin area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Bandipora district, ANI reported. The operation is still underway, the report said. Recently, the valley has witnessed several encounters. On Monday, security forces killed three top Hizbul Mujahideen militants, including its chief recruiter Zahid, in an encounter in Shopian and a top Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) commander in the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir, as per the report by PTI. An Army jawan also died in a brief encounter with militants in the Budgam district of the state.
In another breakthrough, a joint team of security forces October 9, killed top Jaish-e-Mohammed militant commander Umer Khalid in Ladoora area of North Kashmir, police said, as per the report by PTI. Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police S P Vaid had said it was a major breakthrough for the security forces as the militant was involved in many attacks on security camps in North Kashmir as well as targeting policemen in particular.

Khalid is one of the senior-most militant commanders to be killed by security forces this year. As per the report by the Indian Express, over a dozen top leaders of Hizbul Mujahideen, Lashkar-e-Toiba and JeM have been killed by security forces since January. Last month, one of the oldest surviving militants in the Valley, Abdul Qayoom Najar, was killed on the LoC in Uri.
