The third season of Pro Wrestling League (PWL) will start in the first week of January 2018. Just like the previous two season, this time too, the fans will get a chance to witness top wrestling stars from all across the world going head to head inside the arena. However, the major attraction in this new season will be Olympic style Greco Roman Wrestling. This will be an addition to the current form of Freestyle Wrestling, a format that would add rich annals to the Indian Wrestling hall of fame.
“Greco Roman style of Wrestling was introduced in first Summer Olympics of 1896 and India has a rich past at the International level with first significant performance (Gold medal) at 1962, Jakarta Asian Games. Therefore, the inclusion of Olympic style Greco Roman format is a historic move that will offer International exposure to the wrestlers in addition to existing Freestyle Wrestling in the league. This will also take the level of Greco Roman category a notch above,” said Sh. Brijbhushan Sharan Singh, President, Wrestling Federation of India while announcing the new season of PWL.
In the last two seasons, the tournament has garnered International attention, with innovations like toss and blocking, neon clothing and converting the individual sport of wrestling into a team sport with round robin format, 2 semi-finals and a grand finale. This year too, the fans can expect technical broadcasting wizardry and more innovations in the Pro Wrestling League.
Last season, 36 matches were played in the league resulting in 2461 points with a leading point score of 38 points (Bengaluru Vs Punjab) in a single bout. In last two seasons, a total of 30 Olympians amidst 11 Rio Olympic medalists, 16 medalists of World Champion and 7 Continental Games champions took part in the tournament. Apart from this, the auction pool made the league a super hit platform across the Wrestling fraternity and fans in five continents.
As far as the third season goes, more than 200 International players have expressed intent to be a part of the league apart from the extensive list of 300 players (Indian & International) that is currently being scrutinized by ProSportify and Wrestling Federation of India to carve out the best teams with top players.
