GURGAON: City girl Drishthi Rangi won the gold medal and set a record at the All India Inter School Shooting Championship held in Varanasi. The tournament, held from October 2 to 8, had thousands of shooters participating from across the country.
Rangi, a student of Delhi Public School, Sector 45, bagged gold in the 10-metre air pistol round with a score of 371 in the National Rules category. She managed to break the record for the highest score at national level set by Abhidnya Patil of Delhi in 2015 with a score of 370. "I'm very happy to create a new record along with winning the gold medal. This will help me improve my performance."
Girls from Gurgaon won big in the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) category of 10 metre air pistol round too. Priya Raghav won gold with a score of 376, while Aditi Shrivastav won silver with a score of 371. "All three female players from Gurgaon performed brilliantly at the inter-school championship and have got medals at the state level," said their elated shooting coach Parvinder Singh.
Thirty Gurgaon shooters will be part of the upcoming national championship from December 11 to 31 in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. The championship will be divided into junior, youth and senior age group categories for 10 metre air pistol and 10 metre air rifle competitions. The pre-nationals of the All India GV Mavalankar Shooting Championship were held in September in Mumbai. Many players made a name at the national levels. "The players have been selected for the national level after the tournament. Gurgaon players are performing very well," coach Singh said.
