NEW DELHI: Shares of Coal India (number of shares traded: 0.42 crore), Idea Cellular (0.31 crore) and NHPC (0.27 crore) were trading as the most active stocks in terms of volume on NSE in Wednesday's early trade.

Ashok Leyland (0.23 crore), Reliance Industries (0.23 crore), DLF (0.21 crore), Bharti Airtel (0.18 crore), ICICI Bank (0.17 crore), REC (0.16 crore), SAIL (0.15 crore), State Bank of India (0.15 crore) and Axis Bank (0.15 crore) were the other major stocks in the league in that order.

Equity benchmarks Sensex and Nifty registered a positive start, with Sensex rising over 150 points and Nifty crossing 10,060-level.

At 10.10 am (IST), the Nifty50 index was 42 points up at 10,059, while BSE Sensex was 156 points up at 32,080.

In the Nifty index, Bharti Airtel (up 4.02 per cent), Bharti Infratel (up 2.79 per cent), Bajaj Auto (up 2.27 per cent), Mahindra & Mahindra (up 1.64 per cent), Reliance Industries (up 1.51 per cent), Axis Bank (up 1.50 per cent), HCL Technologies (up 1.33 per cent) and GAIL (India) (up 1.19 per cent) were trading as the top gainers.

On the contrary, Indiabulls Housing Finance (down 1.78 per cent), Hindustan Unilever (down 0.56 per cent), Coal India (down 0.56 per cent), ITC (down 0.47 per cent) and Tata Motors (down 0.45 per cent) were the top losers among the Nifty stocks.

Over 80 stocks, including Adani Transmission, Ashok Leyland, Bharat Forge, Bharat Financial Inclusion, Birla Corporation, Dilip Buildcon, Delta Corp, GAIL (India) and JSW Energy hit fresh 52-week highs on NSE in Wednesday's early trade.
