Airlines slash ticket rates to stoke low Diwali demand
An all-inclusive one-way economy flight tickets from Delhi to Mumbai is priced at Rs 2,000 against Rs 5,000- 8,000 earlier.

Airlines are giving a special discount rate for the Diwali season, indicating a slump in demand, according to a Mint report
According to the report, flight rates get to one of their highest in the two weeks before Diwali. An all-inclusive one-way economy flight ticket from Delhi to Mumbai is priced at Rs 2,000 against Rs 5,000- 8,000 earlier. This is almost a rate drop by 40 to 50 percent.
Online travel website MakeMyTrip states that these flight ticket rates cheaper than a Rajdhani train fare.
Not all flight routes are witnessing a rate cut on this scale. The Bengaluru-Delhi flight costs a steep Rs 10,000, for example, as the demand on this route would be possibly higher. The Tata-Air Asia India duo Vistara gave a price tag of Rs 1,149 for the economy class and Rs 2,099 in premium economy on the sector.
The bookings were available from on midnight Tuesday till Friday for travel. One can book for dates between October 26 and March 24.
Mint spoke to MakeMyTrip co-founder Keyur Joshi who stated that flight demand is analogous to the economic demand. Hence lower fares show a general slowdown of the economy.
