Sushma Swaraj helps a Russian national (PTI)
External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj is well known for helping the Indian diaspora and also for assisting tourists who are in trouble. In the same vein, Swaraj came to the aid of a Russian national, who had to resort to seeking alms at a temple in Tamil Nadu. As per IANS report, the 24-year-old Evangelin was seeking alms at a temple in Kancheepuram after finding that his debit card ATM pin was locked and he was left with no money. Following a news report, Swaraj took to Twitter and said,”Evangelin – Your country Russia is our time-tested friend. My officials in Chennai will provide you all help,” according to IANS. As per a report by the Hindu, Evangelin came to India on September 24 and reached Kancheepuram on Tuesday from Chennai. As per IANS report, Evangelin got to know about the problem after he went to an ATM kiosk in the temple town to withdraw money. He eventually got frustrated and had to resort to seeking alms from people coming in by sitting at the entrance of Sri Kumarakottam Temple. According to the report, police reached the temple and after checking his travel documents gave him money to at least reach the Russian Consulate in Chennai.

This is not the first incident when Swaraj helped someone. Earlier on October 10, Swaraj came to the aid of a sick Pakistan national by giving him a medical visa for his liver transplant surgery in India. “Yes, we are granting visa for your father’s liver transplant surgery in India,” Ms. Swaraj tweeted on Monday in reply to a Pakistan resident Hamid Ali Ashraf, whose father Mohammed Ashraf is to be treated at the Max Hospital in Saket, as per PTI report.
“Thank you so much mam thank you. I am gratefull to you mam. It is really a great deed towards humanity,” Ashraf said in reply to Swaraj’s gesture. He had earlier put out a series of tweets since the start of this month, tagging Swaraj and urging her to grant him a medical visa. “Respected mam please help us. My father needs liver transplant, his condition is very bad please issue the visa. I request you mam please,” Ashraf earlier tweeted. Swaraj has accorded her nod in the past to many Pakistan nationals seeking to get medical treatment in India.
