Oct 11 (The Sports Xchange) - The New York Giants suspended cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie after he left the team's facility and did not practice Wednesday.

Head coach Ben McAdoo made the announcement about the 31-year-old Rodgers-Cromartie, who started four of the winless Giants' five games this season.

The NFL disputed the accuracy of President Donald Trump's latest tweet when he praised the league for "finally demanding" players to stand for the national anthem.

Trump said on Twitter that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is now ordering all players to stand during The Star-Spangled Banner.

"It is about time that Roger Goodell of the NFL is finally demanding that all players STAND for our great National Anthem-RESPECT OUR COUNTRY," Trump said in an early morning tweet.

Goodell issued a memo to all 32 teams on Tuesday in a bid to end the controversy surrounding player protests during the national anthem. But the commissioner stopped short of demanding or ordering players to stand.

Second-year quarterback Kevin Hogan will replace rookie DeShone Kizer as the Cleveland Browns starter against the Houston Texans on Sunday, coach Hue Jackson announced.

Hogan, 24, will make the first start of his career over Kizer, who was benched after halftime in last Sunday's 17-14 loss to the New York Jets.

The Dallas Cowboys released offseason acquisition Nolan Carroll, the team announced.

Defensive tackle Stephen Paea also informed the team that he is retiring from football, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported. Paea signed a one-year contract with the Cowboys in March.

--

The Miami Dolphins named Dave DeGuglielmo senior offensive assistant, the team announced.

DeGuglielmo, 49, will work with assistant offensive line coach Chris Kuper and replace former assistant Chris Foerster, who resigned Monday after a video surfaced on social media showing him snorting an unknown white power substance off a table while at work.

Cincinnati Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert is considering season-ending surgery on his back, ESPN reported, citing sources.

Eifert reportedly is consulting with doctors in Los Angeles to determine if he should have micro-disk surgery, which would sideline him for four to six months. The surgical procedure on his back would be the third for the 6-foot-6, 255-pounder.
