HC issues notices to TN govt, wakf board

The Madras High today issued notice to the state and Wakf Board on a plea for quashing a order nominating A Tamilmahan Husaain as member of the board.

Justice K Ravichandra Baabu before whom the filed by A.K. Rafi Baig of came up for hearing, directed the respondents to file their reply within three weeks.


The petitioner submitted as per the Wakf Act, a person to be nominated by the state should have professional experience either in town planning or business management, social work, or revenue, agriculture and development activities put together.

He submitted that the present nomination does not disclose in which field the nominee is having professional experience.

The petitioner further alleged that no notification was issued by the Secretary, Backward and Most Backward Minority Welfare Department of the state inviting applications to be nominated under the clause of Personal and professional experience in various fields.

The petitioner sought quashing of the order appointing A. Tamilmahan Husaain as a member of Wakf Board.
