As per a report by The Verge, Apple will be reviving the Emmy award winning science fiction show Amazing Stories. The show ran between 1985 and 1987.

Apple was anyways rumoured to have invested more than $1 billion dollars in original programming content. Competition in this section of programming is inevitable for the Cupertino-based company. With strong competition from existing streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime, along with Hulu in the US, it can be a struggle for the company. Apple's Planet of Apps on iTunes wasn't very popular.

As per the report, an investment of $5 million has been set per episode for the show. The show is expected to run over ten episodes.

Earlier this year, Apple had hired Jamie Erlicht and Zack Van Amburg from Sony Pictures Television. Both the producers have been creators of popular shows like The Crown and Breaking Bad. The Crown is from Netflix.

It is not the first time that a show has been revived in the original programming stream. Earlier, Netflix had released Fuller House, a revived version of the 80s hit show Full House. But it did not create much buzz.

Meanwhile, Apple’s stint with original programming content has been via Apple Music. Reports have suggested that over the years, Apple has struggled to dominate this market, which Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hulu now own.

Previous reports suggested that Netflix has more than 100 million worldwide subscribers and a video library that added a 1,000 hours of original programming in 2017. HBO has become the Emmys' pacesetter since branching into original programming 20 years ago.

Apple has its work cut out for itself.
