Mumbai: Shiv Sena opposes to putting Metro, Mono projects in special category

Mumbai: The Urban Development (UD) Department of State Government has sent a proposal to the Improvements Committee of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation to include Mono and Metro projects under special category.

The intention behind giving special status is to bypass BMC, which is ruled by the Shiv Sena; the party obstructs the metro proposal for one reason or the other in BMC meetings. If the proposal is approved, permission from the civic body henceforth will not be required to carry out any future work. However, the ruling party stalled the proposal and sought a clarification from the civic administration.  The Chairman of the Improvements Committee of BMC, Anant (Bala) Nar said, “Sena is not against Metro work.

But if existing open spaces are acquired for Metro development that will not be tolerated by the Sena. We will not allow such things to happen at the cost of inconvenience caused to Mumbaikars. So, the proposal has been sent back to the administration as it will curtail the civic corporation’s powers, if approved.”

He added, “The proposal only adds metro and mono in a special category. So, we wanted to know which all such authorities have been given special power before metro and mono.” After receiving flak from the Sena for Metro work, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis himself had come up with this proposal. The UD department, in its proposal, has claimed that if Metro and Mono are given special status, project work would speed up.
