GANDHINAGAR: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi wrapped up his second phase of pre-election campaigning in Gujarat on Wednesday leaving many wondering at his transition as a campaigner.

From the image of being the paratrooper campaigner, Gandhi targeted the NDA government at the Centre and BJP in Gujarat with measured aggression and reached out to the people across central Gujarat spending three days in the region. He is scheduled to visit the state again after Diwali to lead the third phase of Navsarjan Yatra.

In a tangible signal of Rahul’s impact on the ground, his meetings drew large animated crowds, which significantly boosted the morale of Congress, which has been out of power in the state for more than two decades. Rahul all along picked up issues of unemployment, education, GST and demonetisation apart from taking potshots at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president Amit Shah for the allegedly sudden growth of the later’s son’s company. Speaking at Karjan on Tuesday, Rahul had said it was sheer magic that Rs 50,000 became Rs 80 crore in just few months.

He further said while successful companies run longer, “I don't know why it was closed in 2016.” Taking the attack to the doors of the Prime Minister, Rahul reminded the audience of the later’s claim to be the chawkidar (gatekeeper) of the country and questioned him on his silence and mocked his pet scheme of Beti Bachao (save the girl child) saying that it has turned to “Amit Shah ke beteko Bachao” (save Amit Shah’s son).
