Alissa Parker stood before 250 first responders, educators and staff at the 19th Safe Schools Summit Tuesday and relived a story no parent wants to tell. Her daughter, Emilie, was among the 20 children and six teachers shot and killed Dec. 14, 2012, at the Sandy Hook Elementary School when Adam Lanza barged his way into it and went on a killing spree.

Drilling fluid spilled for third time in same area in East Goshen

While performing horizontal directional drilling, Sunoco Pipeline has spilled drilling fluid three times since Saturday at nearly the same site. Three sets of sand bags were in place Tuesday afternoon at the Boot Road and Enterprise Drive intersection in a bid to contain mud from work on the Sunoco Mariner East 2 pipeline.

North Coventry Police charge woman with retail theft from Kohl’s

Police have charged a woman after they say she tried to leave Kohl’s Department Store without paying for cosmetics. On Oct. 2, North Coventry Township Police arrested Tammy Stoler, 49, of Pocono Lake, Pa. The arrest was made after Stoler was seen by Kohl’s security allegedly removing merchandise from the store without paying for it, police said.

Prosecutor: Norristown shooting victim ‘in the wrong place at the wrong time’

A Norristown man vividly recounted for a jury the fear he felt when he was shot after two men he did not know accosted him on a borough street. “Two shots went off. The first bullet whizzed by me. I saw the muzzle flare. One missed me and the next one hit my foot,” the 33-year-old man testified in Montgomery County Court on Tuesday, recalling the 10:10 p.m. Feb. 4 incident in the 200 block of Knox Street. “I said, ‘I’m hit.’”

Filip Forsberg scored his second goal with 35.6 seconds left and the Predators rallied by scoring twice in the final 1:17 to beat the Flyers 6-5 Tuesday for their first victory of the season.

Film on Liberian supergroup by Lower Merion woman premieres in Philly

Some of Liberia’s most famous singers, entertainers and activists are now living in Philadelphia and singing as part of the Liberian Women’s Chorus for Change. Lower Merion resident Toni Shapiro-Phim, a cultural anthropologist and Director of Programs of the Philadelphia Folklore Project, has completed a documentary on how these women went from refugees to a singing and dancing force addressing injustice and social change.

Since the early ‘80s, they’ve been like a demented cross between Manhattan Transfer and Monty Python, or Robin Williams and Bobby McFerrin.
