Calls for inquiry by a sitting SC judge

The Telangana Congress staged a dharna at the Ambedkar statue here demanding an inquiry by a sitting Supreme Court judge into the businesses of Bharatiya Janata Party national president Amit Shah’s son Jay Shah.

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, senior leaders Ponnala Lakshmaiah, Ponnam Prabhakar, Anjan Kumar Yadav, Danam Nagender, D. Sridhar Babu, Banda Chandra Reddy among others, who participated in the dharna, criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence. How can he boast about his Government’s clean image while close aide’s son had made ₹80 crore from just ₹50,000 within an year.

Mr. Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the growth in revenues by 16,000 times and loans by 4,000% in Jay Shah’s company Temple Enterprise after BJP came to power clearly indicates towards large-scale corruption and a major scam. Mr. Amit Shah’s wife, Sonal Shah, also has a stake in the company. Therefore, all the suspicious financial transactions involve the entire family of BJP’s national president, he alleged.

They said that more interesting was the fact that this money was made from agricultural products when the country was witnessing suicides by thousands of farmers unable to get remunerative price for their produce. Mr. Shah should resign, they said and questioned why the Prime Minister, who was using ED and CBI against opposition leaders, was silent on this.

Mr. Reddy questioned as to how Mr. Jay Shah secured loans from Cooperative Banks for setting up power plans when the same banks were not extending loans to farmers for agriculture.

The Congress also alleged that Mr. Shah closed his company a month before the demonetisation decision was taken and converted his currency. How can a company that made ₹80 crore turnover in the previous year shut down altogether, he asked. All this reflects how Mr. Modi had cheated the nation and also protected those who cheated the nation, the Congress leaders alleged.

Mr. Uttam Kumar Reddy also questioned PM Modi on how loans from Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA) and Kalupur Commercial Cooperative Bank were given to Jay Amitbhai Shah’s stock trading company Kusum Finserve to set up windmill plants at Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh.

Mr. Reddy condemned the BJP’s organised attack against the journalist who broke the story on social media. He said that Mr. Amit Shah’s son’s ₹100-crore defamatory suit was an attempt to suppress the media and their freedom of expression.
