PANAJI: Nationalist Student Congress, the student wing of the Nationalist Congress Party, has decided to move high court to demand for implementation of Lyngdoh committee guidelines for the upcoming elections at Goa University.

"In order to reduce political interference in students' union elections and set aside criminal activities that take place as a result, we will be filing a PIL at the high court demanding that the Lyngdoh committee guidelines be implemented," said NSC's state president Ritesh Rawal.

The Supreme Court had set up a committee in 2005 to ensure measures that would curb unrest caused by university elections.

Later, the ministry of human resource development constituted a six-member panel headed by former chief election commissioner JM Lyngdoh.

The committee submitted its report in 2006 with guidelines regarding election criteria for universities in India.
