KURNOOL: The nearly eight lakh people of Kurnool are living in constant fear due to the dearth of storm water drains in the region. Many drains are unable to handle the high influx of water after heavy downpour. Water then begins to flow onto roads, leading to travel hazards and traffic jams.According to Kurnool Municipal Corporation Commissioner CB Harinath Reddy, storm water merges with the Tungabhadra, Handri, KC Canal and Vakkileru Vaagu through open drains.
“We submitted proposals to construct an underground drainage system in the city in 2007 at an estimated cost of `125 crore. It  is still pending with the state government,” he said.P4
