Star Wars: The Last Jedi trailer — Will Rey join Kylo Ren and cross over to the dark side?

After months of anticipation the trailer of Star Wars: The Last Jedi has been released. True to form, it stuns. The 2 minute 34 seconds long trailer hints at a troublesome alliance between Rey and Kylo Ren. Carrie Fisher also makes an appearance in her Princess Leia, nearly a year after her death in 2016.

Apart from Fisher owning the frame for whatever time she is in it, there is Luke Skywalker training Rey on Ahch-To. At one point, he is left astounded by her sheer power. He tells her he's only seen this kind of power once before, (possibly hinting at Kylo Ren, whom he failed to train) and it did not scare him then. However, it does scare him now.

Rey, maintaining the sense of foreboding that places itself at the back of your mind right at the onset, says she could feel a power inside her but could not understand what it meant. The trailer is a cliffhanger till the last bit, where she tells Ren that she needs someone to show her her "place in all this" and he offers his hand to her. Will she take it and join the dark side? We do not know. What we do know and hope is, for her to rise above this conflict.

After tantalising fans with a brief look at Disney’s D23 Expo, Rian Johnson, the director warned fans on Twitter before releasing the trailer. He advised hardcore fans to avoid watching the trailer in order to reserve all its surprises for the final release.
