An eighth standard student drowned after entering into a pond at a secluded place for swimming near Seven Hills Colony in Uppal on Tuesday.

Fourteen-year-old T. Prabhas was living in an orphanage Yashoda Inspirational Home being run by one Naveen. Along with two other inmates of the Home, he went to the pond which had formed due to quarrying of a hillock.

“Prabhas didn’t know swimming. He jumped into the pond from a height and got drowned,” Uppal Inspector K. Narsing Rao said. The other two boys accompanying Prabhas got scared, rushed back to the Home and informed the Home workers.

The body was retrieved and sent to Gandhi Hospital for performing autopsy. Prabhas hailed from Vijayawada. He was studying in Uppal Zilla Parishad High School.
