Odisha registers increase in sea food export during 2016-17

Bhubaneswar, Oct 10 (PTI) Odisha has registered an increase of about 17 per cent in the sea food export during the year 2016-17.
While the total sea food export during 2015-16 was 35,630 MT, it increased to 41,828 MT during 2016-17 thereby recording an increase of 17 per cent in terms of quantity, said Vishal Gagan, the secretary of Fisheries and Animal Resource Development department.
In terms of value, Gagan said, the export increased by 23 per cent with a total turnover of around Rs 2205 crore.
Similarly, the total fish production in the state during 2016-17 also increased by 18 per cent over the last year crossing the mark of 6.14 lakh MT, he said.
Of the total fish production, the inland fish production was around 3,93,730 MT, brackish water production was 67,359 MT and marine fish production was around 1,53,102 MT.
The area under aquaculture also increased to 10130 hectare showing an increase of around 4 per cent over the last year, the secretary said. PTI AAM RG
