Dramatic amateur video shows the extent of Monday's (Oct. 9) storm damage in Johannesburg as severe weather hit South Africa's capital. Rough cut (no reporter narration).

ROUGH CUT. NO REPORTER NARRATION. Storms bringing high winds, hailstones and flash flooding hit the Johannesburg area in South Africa on Monday (October 9). Amateur video showed winds battering and bending a large window, and muddy water spurting from a blocked drain. Stills showed damage to the Cradlestone shopping mall in Riumsig, with parts of the building's frontage ripped to the ground. South Africa's Sunday Times reported one death and several injured by what was described as a 'tornado' in the West Rand area of Johannesburg. The South African weather service had warned residents to prepare for severe thunderstorms.
