HYDERABAD: With the cash-starved State Road Transport Corporation exploiting various sources to generate additional revenue, the large vacant and dust-gathering spaces in passenger terminal complexes or community amenity centres in the state are likely to make way for posh mini theatres. The first such mini theatre would come up at bus terminal complex in Patancheru. There would be as many as 31 such complexes or centres in TSRTC bus stations in state. “The city will have eight such centres at Patancheru, Kukatpally, ECIL, Koti, Midhani, Falaknuma, Hayathnagar and Kacheguda and each one would be constructed with an investment of over `10 crore,” a senior official said.
“On Tuesday, the corporation will be organising a pre-bid meet to clarify and discuss issues with respect to the e-tender documents and last date for submission is October 30,” he added.
A few years ago, each bus station was constructed in an area of over 45,000 square feet as ground plus three or four structures. While the ground floor is being occupied by RTC for operating ticket booking counters, pass counter and other purposes, a majority of the space in these complexes has been gathering dust.
TSRTC authorities, who worked on different modalities like Build-Operate and Transfer, Public Private Partnership to construct the mini theatres were inviting tenders to establish and operate mini theatres in 31 bus stations in the state.
