The Madras High Court on Monday dismissed an application filed by the office-bearer of Hindu Munnetra Kazhagam opposing the plea for premature release of Al Umma leader S.A. Basha, who has been serving life sentence in connection with cases related to the serial blasts that rocked Coimbatore in 1998 killing 60 people.
A Division Bench consisting of Justices Rajiv Shakdher and N. Sathish Kumar dismissed the sub application preferred by K. Gopinath, also an advocate, and refused to grant him permission to get impleaded in a habeas corpus petition preferred by the life convict’s daughter B. Mubeena seeking a direction e to release her father from prison.
