BENGALURU: A 28-year old techie was stabbed to death near the chocolate factory at Tavarekere, in the wee hours of Monday. The deceased has been identified as Pranoy Mishra, an Odisha native, who was working as software engineer at the global firm Accenture in the city. He was based in Sudguntepalya. On Sunday, he had attended a party at his friend’s place in Begur till 8pm. Mishra booked a cab to return to his place. Later, around 2.30 am, Pranoy called up his girlfriend, also a techie, who lives in BTM Layout second stage, and told her that he would be coming to her place.

He left the house on his motorcycle. On his way there, unidentified persons seem to have stabbed him to death. It was initially suspected that robbers may have stabbed him after Pranoy resisted them. However, police found all his belongings to be intact. This has prompted the police to investigate if Mishra had any personal enmities.The passersby saw him lying in a pool of blood. By then, Pranoy’s girlfriend called his phone, which was picked up by a bystander at the scene of the crime. She was told about her boyfriend’s death. Upon this, she called a mutual friend who lived in the area and told him what had happened.
The mutual friend reached the spot and helped shift Mishra’s body to St John’s hospital where he was declared brought dead. Madiwala police have registered a case and an investigation is underway. Police said that three teams have been formed to identify and catch the culprits. The police are also going over the footage from CCTV cameras near the crime scene.Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) south-east Boralingaiah said, “We are yet to ascertain whether it was a robbery attempt or enmity or road rage that led to murder. We are hopeful the accused will be nabbed at the earliest.”
