NEW DELHI: The Congress on Tuesday accused the BJP of "renaming, re-packaging and re-launching" development projects started by the UPA government.

"On one hand, this dispensation claims that no development happened in the last 70 years, on the other, they are running a Central government by renaming, relaunching and repacking UPA-era schemes, with great pomp and grandeur," the Congress claimed.

The party also accused the BJP government of blocking "several projects in Amethi," the Lok Sabha constituency of Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi.

"The pettiness and nervousness of this current dispensation are such that they blocked several projects in Amethi, that were sanctioned by the UPA government," it charged.

The ruling party is only interested in "reaping political mileage," as opposed to the Congress's "development-oriented" outlook, it further said.

The Congress went on to list its achievements in Amethi. These included rural electrification, road construction, and better rail connectivity.

Substantiating its allegation that the BJP was appropriating the UPA's existing projects and just "re-inaugurating" them, the Congress claimed that a minister in PM Modi's cabinet is expected to "attend the launch of an FM station at Gauriganj" that has already been inaugurated by Rahul in 2014.

Amethi has seen a flurry of high-profile visits from both, the Congress and BJP, recently, given its important in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
