ADILABAD : The theft at Adilabad MP G Nagesh’s residence and the subsequent comments on police department ended in a sharp criticism from district superintendet of police M Srinivas on a day when the police solved the theft case with arrest of two thieves and recovering stolen property. After the theft in his house on September 27, Nagesh commented that the theft took place due to failure of police and faulted the police and Intelligence departments. “Both the Intelligence and district police administration failed to take precautionary steps to avoid unwanted incidents by finding out schedules of VIP. Police officials did not respond even after being informed about the burglary. They did not bring sniffer dogs to the spot. This shows negligence of police officials,” he remarked questioning the ability of the police force.

Nagesh was reportedly annoyed that SP had not called him to inform about theft. “If there is no security to property of VIPs, how cops could provide safety to general public?” he asked. On Monday, while producing the accused in before the media, the SP minced no words in stating that it was wrong on the MP’s part to comment on the functioning and efficiency of the police.

“It was due to the efforts of police that the thieves were caught in the shortest possible time. Making irresponsible comment on a dedicated force was not correct. The MP should not forget that the same police had cracked 66 cases in a year in the district.  I leave to his own justification about the comment on police,” he said. “The police offered security guard at the residence of the MP, but he refused to take. So who is at fault?” he asked.

Duo arrested for theft
Police recovered 125 gms of gold and DVR of CCTVs from them. The thieves looted cash and gold ornaments all worth `15 lakh. The accused, Md Moaiz, an auto driver from Housing Board colony and Shaik Asif, who runs a mobile repairing shop at Hanumanagar in Nagapur, were involved in the theft in the MP’s residence and were arrested based on strong evidence.Moaiz, a habitual offender, committed the theft within two days of his release from prison. He later escaped to Nagpur to his friend Shaik Asif’s house. Moaiz broke the main door of MP’s house and stole ornaments.

They converted gold ornaments into biscuits and were trying to sell them in Adilabad town when they were caught.Interestingly this is the third time the MP’s house has been burgled. After the first burglary, the MP installed CCTVs at his house. However, this time the burglars smashed the CCTV cameras before gaining entry into the house and committed offence.
