Some farmers sell produce at throw away price

The forecast of rain for another three days is causing serious concern to farmers and official machinery as the standing paddy crop was affected while the harvested maize and soyabean crops were soaked following the heavy rain on Sunday.

According to information reaching here, paddy in hundreds of acres was damaged to an extent of 25% as it is ripe and was about to be cut shortly.

The loss is reported to be heavy in Nandipet, Jakranpally and Makloor mandals in Armoor Assembly constituency and in Renjal mandal of Bodhan constituency. Agriculture authorities are busy calculating the loss. Soya and maize, which were cut recently and were being dried before transporting to the market and the purchase centers, got soaked with the intermittent rains during the last five days. Worried about the weather conditions, some farmers sold away the produce at throw away price.
