Telecom regulator TRAI, will meet industry stakeholders on October 16 to review rates charged by telecom companies for international roaming and making international calls from India said two officials aware of the matter.
One of the officials mentioned above said that TRAI is looking to bring international calling costs in India in line with international standards. "This issue was also brought up in the Asia-Pacific regulators roundtable organised by TRAI" the official added.
TRAI may look to rationalize international calling rates to make it comparable to rates charged in other countries. After having a dialogue with all the relevant stakeholders TRAI can either decide to bring a consultation paper or issue recommendations on the same.
