Mumbai: Locals rescue minor, thrash man trying to molest her at Wadala

Mumbai: Locals rescued a three-and-a-half-year-old girl at Wadala as a pervert had allegedly kidnapped her and was trying to sexually assault her on Sunday night.

The accused Nitin Yandavkar (28) was a neighbour of the victim. The girl was allegedly kidnapped from her residence near Bhakti Park at Wadala on Sunday night at 8:30 pm. Nitin reportedly abducted the girl on the pretext of buying her a chocolate while she was playing in the neighbourhood. When the girl’s mother returned home at around 9:30 pm, she found that her child was missing.

Nitin took the girl to a deserted location near Wadala Truck Terminal where he disrobed her. However, the girl started crying and screaming for help when a few locals heard the plea of the little girl. The locals gathered and beat up Nitin and handed him over to the police. According to Sushil Kamble, Senior Police Inspector, Wadala Truck Terminal police station, “The motive behind the kidnapping was to sexually assault the girl.The locals caught the accused and informed us about the incident. Nitin does not have any previous criminal records.”

The accused is from Solapur and had come to Mumbai for work. He used to do odd jobs as a labourer and was unemployed for the last five months. He was living in a slum a few metres away from the residence of the victim. The girl’ mother approached the cops and registered a missing person’s complaint on Sunday night. He was arrested for kidnapping (Section 354) of the Indian Penal Code and for sexual assault (Section 7) under the Protection of Children From Sexual Offences Act.
