Indirapuram substation to supply power in two days

Ghaziabad: After missing several deadlines, the 400 kV substation in Kala Patthar of Indirapuram was charged on Monday with power corporation turning on the main machine of the facility. The substation is expected to function after two days when power from the it would be supplied.
According to officials of Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitaran Nigam Limited (PVVNL), the power distribution utility of Ghaziabad, work has already started to integrate the substation with the electricity distribution network of the city.
S K Gupta, PVVNL chief engineer, said, "Power to Indirapuram township will be completely supplied from this substation. The electricity supply in township will be drastically improved once substation is functional. Breakdowns due to overloading will be avoided in Indirapuram."
At present, breakdowns are frequent in Indirapuram due to overloading in transmission lines supplying electricity from Vaishali and Sahibabad. Officials said new substation will improve interconnectivity within distribution network by providing additional options for diversion of supply in if breakdowns occur in other areas. The substation has been constructed at approximately Rs 350 crore by transmission wing of UP Power Corporation Limited. The project commenced in year 2010-11 and had been mired in delays in several obstacles including a litigation in National Green Tribunal that stretched for over two years.
