Executing agencies asked to approach banks

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu hauled up Water Resources Department engineers and agencies that were executing Polavaram project work at the review meeting held here on Monday.

Mr. Naidu conducting the weekly “Somavaaram – Polavaram” asked why weekly targets could not be achieved though all the necessary equipment was made available. The Chief Minister conducted a virtual inspection of the irrigation project from his camp office.

‘Massive absenteeism’

Polavaram Chief Engineer V. Ramesh Babu informed the Chief Minister that the agencies were facing fund crunch because they were not paying workers regularly resulting in massive absenteeism.

The executing agencies were not receiving payments because they were lagging in concrete work. Mr Naidu said there was no point in conducting review meetings if the progress in work was not up to the mark.

Mr Naidu asked the agencies to approach banks to surmount the cash crunch they were facing.

He asked the agencies to resolve their problem in two days and achieve the set targets.

The Chief Minister said strict action would be taken if targets were not achieved in future.
