Telangana indents KRMB for 122 tmcft of water

Projects drinking, irrigation needs till July 2018

The Telangana Government on Monday placed its indent before Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) on water requirement for drinking and irrigation needs in the Krishna Basin till July 2018 at 122 tmcft, with a detailed plan for utilisation of 96 tmc.ft out of it.

Engineer-in-Chief B. Nagendra Rao wrote to the Member-Secretary of the KRMB stating that Telangana had utilised 37.484 tmcft till October 6 for irrigation and drinking needs and it would need another 122 tmcft for the purpose till July next.

It has indented 34.5 tmcft for Rabi cultivation under Nagarjunasagar Left Canal Zone-I and another 20 tmcft for Zone-II. Besides, 10 tmcft has been sought for filling minor irrigation tanks under Alimineti Madhava Reddy Srisailam Left Bank Canal, 13.78 tmcft for drinking needs of Hyderabad, 14.83 tmcft for Mission Bhagiratha, 3.89 tmcft for existing drinking water schemes and 25 tmcft for Rabi cultivation and drinking needs under Kalwakurthy lift irrigation scheme.

The requirement of water for drinking needs of Hyderabad, Mission Bhagiratha and existing schemes has been worked out and indented at 20% consumptive use as per Caluse-VII of Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal-I (Bachawat) award.

On the water utilised till October 6, the ENC explained that 5.47 tmcft has been utilised for drinking needs of Hyderabad, 0.90 tmcft for Nalgonda district drinking needs, 3.49 tmcft for irrigation and drinking needs under Kalwakurthy lift, 12.756 tmcft for irrigation and drinking under Jurala, 4.868 tmcft under Nettempadu lift, 6.394 tmcft under Bhima lift, 2.653 tmcft under Koilsagar lift, 0.414 tmcft under Musi, 0.283 under Pakala lake and 0.254 tmcft under Lankasagar.
