UP:‘Law to check fee hike by private schools’

Deputy chief minister Dinesh Sharma on Monday said the UP government will soon introduce a law to check fee hike by private schools every year.

Sharma was speaking at the inaugural function of the 63rd State Inter-School Athletics Championship in Allahabad.

On transparency in UP Board exams 2017-18, Sharma said the government had decided to install CCTV cameras at all examination centres.

“Maintaining quality of education is the government’s top priority and, with this objective, it has been decided to introduce textbooks published by National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT) in UP Board schools from 2018-19. The aim is to bring the curriculum of UP Board at par with Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE),” he added.

Besides making commercial education compulsory, plans are afoot to introduce skill development courses at secondary school levels in order to ensure a bright future for children, said Sharma.

He also laid emphasis on organising sports activities in schools and colleges for overall development of children and for this purpose yoga was introduced in syllabus. “It has also been made compulsory at university level and this was conveyed to vice chancellors (VCs) of all state universities during the VCs’ convention,” added Sharma.

He said the government is also committed to provide jobs to sportspersons who represent the state at national and/or international level.

Stressing on empowering girls, he said it was the need of the hour to enable girls with self-defence skills and for this purpose efforts were being made to organise tae-kwon-do classes in government girls schools.
