‘Give timeline for relocation of casinos’

Panaji: All India Congress Committee secretary Girish Chodankar on Tuesday said that there is speculation the government will relocated offshore casinos in River Mandovi to Mopa. This, along with the earlier announcement to create an entertainment zone in Mopa, appear to be plans to set up a special economic zone of sorts at Mopa, he said.

Chodankar said chief minister Manohar Parrikar, who had opposed casinos before his election in 2012, has given 11 extensions to casinos to anchor in River Mandovi over the last five-and-a-half years.

"Don't cheat the people again and again. At least roll out a timeline on when casinos will be relocated and where. The government should clearly declare where the casinos will be shifted. ," he said.
