Refinery workers to Trump: Save our jobs
Not even a torrential downpour Monday morning could undermine the message from hundreds of refinery workers at Monroe Energy, directed at President Trump: Fix the Renewable Fuel Standard that puts the financial burden of mixing renewables into fuel mix onto the refineries — and save their jobs.
Medic 91 ambulance corps to be discontinued
Penn Medicine Chester County Hospital Medic 91 will be discontinued in January, when Good Fellowship Ambulance officially takes over the service. The hospital announced to its paramedics last Thursday that Medic 91 will be coming to an end on Jan. 8, 2018 and the medical care coverage will be transitioned to Good Fellowship Ambulance.
Limerick Unit 2 shut down for planned maintenance
Operators shut down the Unit 2 nuclear generator at the Limerick Generating Station Monday morning to perform planned maintenance, according to an announcement from Exelon Nuclear. While the unit is offline, technicians will disassemble and repair a waste pump inside the containment building of the station. In order to make the repairs, it was necessary to take the unit offline. “We manually took the unit offline to repair one of several redundant water pumps within a comprehensive system that circulates water in the reactor,” plant spokeswoman Emily Ryan said.
Texas men facing trial this week for Norristown shooting, beating
Two Texas men accused of playing roles in the shooting and assault of a Norristown man they mistakenly believed sold them fake drugs will face a jury when their trial gets under way this week in Montgomery County Court. Michael Steven Lachney, 27, and Roger Avila, 21, both of Houston, helped select a jury of eight women and four men that will begin hearing testimony at their joint trial on Tuesday. The trial before Judge Garrett D. Page is expected to last about three days.
Early draft of Lansdale’s 2018 budget shows $611,000 deficit
The financial picture for Lansdale Borough in 2018 is starting to come into focus, and staff and council still have plenty of work to do before finalizing their next budget. “Out of 10 total funds, we have nine completely balanced. Right now, the only out-of-balance fund, where expenses exceed revenues, is the general fund, and at the current time it’s $611,000 short,” said Finance Director John Ramey.

Lane Johnson in concussion protocol, unlikely to be ready for Thursday’s Eagles game
High among the explanations for the Eagles’ 4-1 expectation-building start has been their ability to overcome injuries. The tests, though, continue to mount. Oft-unavailable yet critical Lane Johnson sustained a concussion in the Birds’ 34-7 victory over the visiting Arizona Cardinals Sunday. By Monday, according to Doug Pederson, the right tackle was in the concussion protocol. With the Birds on an accelerated schedule due to a Thursday night game at Carolina, Johnson almost certainly would not have enough time to be cleared to play.

Sixers, Joel Embiid agree on $148M contact, report says
For the 76ers, a process that had been requiring mostly trust has become a commitment requiring $148 million. Joel Embiid, who has played 31 total games in his four-year NBA career, will sign a five-year extension to his rookie contract, according to ESPN. With incentives, the deal could be worth as much as $178 million. The Sixers had until Oct. 16 to extend the contract or allow Embiid to play this season and then become a free agent.
