Quarter Se Quarter Tak: Experts discuss what to expect from Q2 earnings

This quarter if you get away with Rs 450 earnings on Nifty, it would be a surprise. The earnings could be in low single-digit, says Sanjiv Bhasin, Executive VP-Markets and Corporate Affairs, IIFL

With the earnings season upon us there are many questions that arise like will the Nifty see double-digit earnings it growth in the second quarter? Will demonetisation and GST continue to haunt in Q2? Which sectors will lead and which sectors will drag and finally, will Nifty earnings for FY18 and FY19 be cut further.

To get answers to all the above questions, CNBC-TV18 in their special show ‘Quarter Se Quarter Tak spoke to market experts -- Sanjiv Bhasin, Excecutive VP-Markets And Corporate Affairs, IIFL,- Dhananjay Sinha, Head - Institutional Research, Emkay Global Financial Services and Anish Damania, CEO & Head-Institutional Equities, IDFC Securities.

Bhasin says this quarter if you get away with Rs 450 earnings on Nifty, it would be a surprise. The earnings could be in low single-digit. According to him, this quarter could be a washout.

Sinha says for their universe considering non-bank and non-oil sector, the earnings could be close to 9.5 percent, topline growth of 10.2 percent and EBITA around 10 percent. It could be a mixed quarter but earnings of this quarter may not symbolize the trend going forward.

Damania says for the IDFC universe they are looking at a growth of 9 percent for the whole year - 3 percent growth for first half and 12 percent for second half.

According to Damania, Nifty earnings estimate is around 6 percent and about 4 percent growth in IDFC universe estimates.
