Feeding the hungry faceless people in the city

KOCHI: In a novel initiative, the Foundation of Annam Charity Ease (FACE) will be distributing food free of cost in the city throughout the day. FACE is a charitable organisation which has been active in taking up welfare initiatives for past several years. It has been providing free lunch for past five years.  The programme was inaugurated by writer M K Sanu at a function held on Monday. “Though Kochi is fast growing into a metro city, there are many who languish in its nook and crannies.

These helpless people are unable to buy food even once in a day. There are several who earn meagre amount daily and find it tough to feed their entire family. Anybody can come to FACE office and get food for free,” T R Devan, managing trustee of FACE said.The office of FACE functions near Ayyapankavu temple. “We have been conducting free lunch programme for past five years. On a daily basis we serve lunch to around 200 to 500 people,” he said.

According to Devan, the fund donated by patrons is used to prepare food.  “Certainly, we have financial constraints. The members of FACE are pooling in the money for the lunch programme. Many people in the city are also financially backing the programme,” he said. 
FACE members expect the free food programme will be able to satiate the hunger of a good number of people in Kochi.
